thankfully it was just a decoy

We’re just getting ready to watch one of the very few TV shows that we watch and I’ve just found the funniest thing. Our darling daughter has decided to feed some toast to the VCR. It looks like it was done some time today - judging by the state of the bread and the topping that was on it.

Thankfully, it was the old broken VCR that is still in the entertainment unit and not the working one that we use. We try not to let her watch much TV at all so for the shows that we watch we generally record them and watch them after she has gone to bed. Thankyou darling, that was most amusing :)

Perfect Timing

Yay for power failures. I really love them. Especially when it’s the first day of working from home and I can’t do anything because my internet connection is no longer functioning.

We lost power at about 11am and called energex pretty much straight away. The fault information line ‘did not know of any faults in our area’ so we reported one. After making us check the fuse box to ensure it wasn’t a blown fuse *lol*, they logged a job and said that someone would be here within 2 hours.

The first energex man turned up within 40 - 50 minutes. After quickly checking our fuse box he then started to check out the pillar. Fastforward to 12:30pm and another energex man turns up. The both work on the pillar for a little while and by 1pm we had power back. Apparently the fuse in the pillar for our house had burned out. It looked like it had been on the way out for a while, so that means that there was nothing that we did that had caused it.

Thankyou mister energex man. I can get back to work now.

Four small steps

It’s been a while since I last posted anything here, and quite a bit has happened since my last entry. The biggest and most exciting, for me at least, was last Saturday when Kira took her first steps. We were at a friends place, having been to their daughters first birthday that day and Kira amazed us all.

I was very happy to have been there to see it, even more so that I could share that with Stacey. Kira pulled herself up onto her feet using the lounge, then cruised along it a little. After picking up a toy in each hand, Kira looked at them both as if to say “What do I do now?” and then proceeded to take 4 quick unassisted steps before plonking down on her bum.

So far these are the only such steps that Kira has taken, but we know that when she is ready she will be walking more frequently.

Bigpond connection, somewhat fishy

My inlaws got broadband yesterday. They’ve been using telstra bigpond dial up for close to a year now and have enjoyed having all their services (Foxtel, internet, home & mobile phones) on the one bill.

I try not to talk much computer stuff with them, as for I always end up spending time helping out. An example is the new computer they got recently that I was asked to help them “put it together”.

Any way, back to the broadband connection. I haven’t got the full details but basically a sales drone called the inlaws house and spoke to my father in law. And in less then an hour they had an installer at their house hooking them up. That just screams inappropriate to me. I’ll have to head around there some time soon to ensure that they have the appropriate software to avoid their machine getting trojaned to hell and back.

It’s all a coincidence.

How’s this for a strange week?

Saturday 2 weeks ago our washing machine died. We probably could have gotten it looked at and repaired, but armed with a desire to get a more efficient front loader and the knowledge that we had already had the mainboard in our existing machine replaced we decided it was time to purchase a new one.

We had plans for the morning/day and were either going to go shopping for the new machine that afternoon or on Sunday. While we were up in Brisbane we got a phone call from Stacey’s mum. She wanted to know if they could come around and borrow our washing machine because theirs had just failed and the new one they had purchased was not being delivered until Monday.

A small coincidence, and a bit of a laugh for both of us.

The battery in our car died Wednesday night last week. I had to wait for the RACQ guy to turn up and jump start me so that I could get home. I was worried that it might have been the starter motor or the alternator. Thankfully my fears were unfounded and I was on my way. Stacey emailed her mother the next day to inform her of the death of our battery, only to be informed that the battery in their car had just died that morning.

Freaky! Seeing as these things usually happen in threes I’ve been waiting to see what would be next. So far nothing has happened and I’m not going to get surprised either way really.

Holidays!

Yay for holidays. I’ve officially started my holiday and am unimpressed at the feeling of guilt I have for leaving the other guys at work to cope with things as they currently are. I wont go into details, but suffice to say I feel that I have left guys at possibly the worst time.

As for the holiday itself, I am so looking forward to this time away it amazes me. This is the first holiday that I have had in over a year, and the longest that I have had at one time in many years. Tonight we are flying to Tasmania for 2 weeks with my mother. I think Mum might be looking forward to this more than we are. She came up to Brisbane just after Kira was born. She’s not seen Kira since then except through photos.

This will be my first time in Tassie in about 8 years, and the first time for Stacey and Kira. There should be plenty of photos from the trip.
