Perfect Timing

Yay for power failures. I really love them. Especially when it’s the first day of working from home and I can’t do anything because my internet connection is no longer functioning.

We lost power at about 11am and called energex pretty much straight away. The fault information line ‘did not know of any faults in our area’ so we reported one. After making us check the fuse box to ensure it wasn’t a blown fuse *lol*, they logged a job and said that someone would be here within 2 hours.

The first energex man turned up within 40 - 50 minutes. After quickly checking our fuse box he then started to check out the pillar. Fastforward to 12:30pm and another energex man turns up. The both work on the pillar for a little while and by 1pm we had power back. Apparently the fuse in the pillar for our house had burned out. It looked like it had been on the way out for a while, so that means that there was nothing that we did that had caused it.

Thankyou mister energex man. I can get back to work now.

Friday Night Games

Well, I’ve just gotten back from Dreamworld after attending an “audition” for Friday Night Games, the spin off of Big Brother’s Friday Night Live.

The audition process was a bit disappointing and I’m about 99% sure that I didn’t get through.  Something to do with not being asked to stay behind kinda gives that impression.  Any way, things to do at the moment, so I will put together a more detailed run down of the audition when I have time.

Overdue update

It’s been a couple of months since my last update and a lot of things have happened in the intervening time.

At work we’ve had an Oracle Upgrade, a complete network restructure and an office move for the IS and Finance departments.

At home, we’ve had births, a death, big decisions, big-ish purchases and a couple of upgrades.

I hope to expand on some of these over the next few days, but for now just wanted to get my thoughts down so that i know what I still need to divulge.

Too Wired!

I’ve had a few problems recently with a sore back and neck. I’ve finally been able to get in to see the Osteopath and I feel a lot better already. I still have to go back for a few more sessions, but if the improvements keep coming like they did today I will be very happy.

Unfortunately the Osteopath has given me the reason for my current pain. I’m too wired! Or, more correctly - my body is too tense from all the stimulants that I consume. I’ve been told that I need to cut back on all the coke and redbull that I drink. Problem is that I am a geek. And every geek knows that coke, redbull, etc - caffeine - are staples for a geek. A geek without caffeine is like, well, a geek without caffeine. We need our caffeine.

This is going to be an interesting challenge.

Who are you holding for?

I just received a somewhat strange phone call. My phone starting vibrating and flashing, and looking at the number displayed I reconized the phone number of a client. I answered the phone expecting questions about the new webhost that we just switched them to, instead I got their on-hold message.

I thought this was a little strange, but nothing to worry about. I waited patiently for about 1 minute until someone picked up and thats where it got weird. I was asked who I was holding for. I said that I didn’t know as someone had called me and I was straight on hold. A short back and forth with the person on the other end and we decided it must have been an accidental call and instead of hanging up the caller had accidentally put me on hold.

Oh well, no harm, no foul!
